Hellboy is a fictional character created by writer-artist Mike Mignola, appearing in comic books published by Dark Horse Comics. Debuting in 1993, Hellboy is a demon brought to Earth as an infant by Nazi occultists but rescued and raised by Professor Trevor Bruttenholm. He grows up to be a large, red-skinned adult with a tail, horns (which he files down), and a right hand made of stone, known as the "Right Hand of Doom." Hellboy works for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D.), fighting dark forces including witches, monsters, and other supernatural entities. His character combines elements of a tough detective with a nuanced, often humorous personality, set against a backdrop of folklore and occult mysteries.
